Gift ListsGifts  If you think back to when our parents got married – very few of them lived together beforehand and gift lists weren’t really around then. Hence this was the reason why couples received 4 toasters and 3 kettles. Nowadays the majority of people will have already lived together before getting married and will have bought the necessary essentials to start up their home therefore Gift lists are great for receiving items that you can’t necessarily afford or just haven’t got round to buying, e.g. a new garden light. Some people choose not to have gift lists; instead they ask just for gift vouchers should guests wish to purchase a gift. The tricky thing to decide is whether to include the wedding gift list in with the wedding invitation? My suggestion is to have written somewhere on the invitation "Wedding List" available on request. This is prevent you from appearing cheeky and assuming that everyone you invite to your wedding will want to a) buy a wedding gift or b) buy something from the list. If your wedding is far away and people have to drive, go by train or even plane to your wedding then asking them to buy a gift might be a bit on the expensive side. With regards to those guests arriving in the evening, a gift list should not be sent to them, especially if they are going to have to buy drinks in the evening and potentially stay in a hotel.
