JewelleryDiamonds ![]() A beautiful diamond is a lifetime investement and one of the most important purchases you will make so choose carefully. How much you spend on a ring is purely down to the individual - you can spend as little or as much as you wish, however a month's salary tends to be the norm. Engagement Rings There are many different cuts for engagement ring jewells, the most popular cuts are: Brilliant Emerald Heart Pear Marquise Oval Princess For maximum sparkle the brilliant cut wins hands down. This cut interacts with light brilliantly (hence the name). Round diamonds are usually the most radiant, however rarer shapes can sometimes crave more attention. Besides the cut there are other factors to consider when choosing your ring. These are commonly known as "The four C's": Carat, Clarity, Cut and Colour Carat The measure of a diamond's weight (0.2g). Cut and mounting can make a stone appear larger than it really is, so discuss this carefully with your jeweller. Clarity Refers to the presence of inclusion trapped in the stone. These inclusions are invisible to the naked eye. F and IF (Flawless) represent the highest standards of clarity in the world. The purer the diamond the better the quality. Cut The flat, polished surfaces that reflect light. Colour The whiter and clearer diamond, the better. A really good diamond should be the colour of a vodka and tonic. However if diamonds are not your thing then other stones such as emeralds, sapphires and rubies also make spectacular ring. Top tips for buying a ring Stone: The stone accounts for 75% to 90% of the overall cost. The size, clarity and cut of the stone directly affects the price and value of the ring. Diamonds: These are harder than any other gemstone and are suited for every day wear. Quality, value and cost are determined from the 4 C's as stated above. Size: The width of a band is its horizontal measurement. When measuring, jewellers are only concerned with the widest part - the top of the band when on the finger. Money: Men often spend more than they should on a ring but as a guide a months net salary is the norm. However this is the most important bit of jewellery they will ever have to buy. One last thing to remember - when you finally purchase your dream gem ensure your dealer provides you with a Certified Valuation Certificate as you will need this for insurance purposes. *Please mention Completely Weddings when contacting a supplier* |
