Venues

The venue for the wedding reception is where all the fun happens. When looking for your perfect venue, look for places that will both fit your requirements in terms of numbers and catering, as well as its abitlity to tie in with your chosen theme (if you have one).

You may decide to choose a grand hall where the furnishings are luxurious and sparkling for a starry theme, or you may opt for a castle to renenact your fairytale theme. Whatever you decide there is a venue out there for everyone.

If you are planning on having a civil ceremony then there is a huge amount of venues throughout the country that have licenses to hold civil ceremonies.

It may be obvious to some but when choosing your venue you will need to make sure that the venue lives up to all your expectations. There are a few factors you will need to consider:
  • How many people can they accommodate for the ceremony and for the reception?
  • Do they provide their own catering or will you have to find your own?
  • What is their policy on music and entertainment – will you have to use their resident DJ or can you have a band or musicians?
  • How many bar staff will they have on the day/night?
  • What time does the party have to finish?
  • What is their policy on children entertainment?
  • Can guests stay at the venue?
  • Is there an outside where people can stand weather permitting?
  • What are the parking facilities?
  • How easy is it to find?
  • How can you decorate the room? – e.g. some venues do not permit candles.
If you are having a religious ceremony in a church you will need to consider how far away the venue is from the church, as most people wont want to have to drive or get a cab for somewhere miles away.
